Office 2013 Customization Tool: it's not applying the "Cached Exchange Mode Sync Settings"

I used the Office Customization tool for Office 2013 via its "setup.exe /admin" launcher.
I made adjustments accordingly and saved the .msp file (as Office2013Custom to the installation source's updates folder).
Settings appear to be applied at the install, such as MAK license information, Outlook profile name, etc.

However, one setting does not appear to be applying: Outlook 2013 > Account Settings > Exchange > Cached Exchange Mode > "Cached Exchange Mode Sync Settings".

I've set that setting to "Enabled" with a value of "Three months". However, post-deployment, I check my Server settings in my Outlook 2013 Account, and the slider for "Use Cached Exchange Mode" is set to "All".

See the screenshots. Any suggestions here?

I've tried both deploying as an upgrade from Office 2010, as well as fresh/new install to 2013. I've also tried with the MSP with the "migrate user settings" box unchecked.

I've looked in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office, but I don't even see a "15.0" folder. I was looking around in here to see if there were going to be some keys related to this setting in the registry but am not finding anything. I figured maybe there would be a glitch with the slider showing a setting different than what could be set in the registry...?

Hi,

Thanks for your question. Are you testing this with your existing Outlook profile or a new Outlook profile?

I've just tested this on my own machine, after applying the .MSP file, I created a new Outlook profile, then added an Exchange account into it. The Sync Slider (the "Mail to keep offline" slider in the Outlook 2013 Server Settings dialog box) was correctly set to the value I've specified in the .MSP file.

The registry path for this OCT setting (Cached Exchange Mode Sync Settings) is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\office\15.0\outlook\cached mode!syncwindowsetting

Please have a check and see if the setting has been configured correctly. The one you've mentioned in your post is the registry path for corresponding Group Policy setting.

Ok it appears to have worked.

I think what happened was, the first time I did it, I had the "migrate user settings" box checked in the OCT for the msp file. So having the policy checked to 3 months had no effect since I must have set it to All in as part of my settings that were migrated.

The 2nd attempt, the profile name must have been the same as the previous profile, so even though I didn't migrate settings, because the profile name was the same, it didn't take  the setting.

So the 3rd/final time, I removed all profiles from Mail in control panel, uninstalled Office 2013, then redeployed, and now it appears to be set accordingly:

Hmm I still can't consistently get this setting to apply. Trying different scenarios so far with the msp file in the updates folder that contains this setting with value of 3 months. so far it still has "All

1. Upgrading from 2010

2. Manually uninstalling 2010, rebooting, then installing Office 2013

3. Removing all Mail profiles from "Mail" applet, then upgrading from Outlook 2010 to Outlook 2013

Ok my bad

The value is 3 in the registry (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\cached mode) > reg_dword "syncwindowsetting" Data hexa/deci of "3".

But the slider is set to "All" in the GUI.

So I'm wondering which setting wins?

Hi,

How is it going? You might want to have a check if you have the related Group Policy configured which might be forcing Outlook to download all emails.

Check related Group Policy registry:

Group Policy registry path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\policies\microsoft\office\15.0\outlook\cached mode!syncwindowsetting
